Textile Tour of West Bengal

At a glance

A textile journey commencing in the Bay of Bengal, travelling north through rural country side and the fertile farmlands of West Bengal, high into the cool fresh air. Visiting bustling cities and small villages seeking out the history and traditional methods behind weaving, Kantha and textiles in this region.

Also the textile villages around Shantiniketan, including those known for elaborate batik work and tasar silk weaving are part of the textile tour.

Through this textile tour, you will get an opportunity to watch women doing traditional kantha embroidery on quilts, garments and other household items.

    Upon your arrival in Kolkata, you will be assisted by your Aahilya Holiday’sTravel personnel who will transferyou to the Hotel for check in.

    After breakfast participate in Kantha workshop with award winner artisans. Light snacks will be served during the workshops.

    Breakfast will be at your hotel.

    Early morning visit to flower market, drive past Howrah Bridge, Dalhousie square, Photo stop at Victoria Memorial.

    Lunch will be at local restaurant on direct payment basis.

    Afternoon visit to Kumartuli and Dakhinapan market.

    Breakfast will be at your hotel.

    Today participate in full day block printing workshop and visit artisans studio.

    Lunch will be served during the workshop.

  • Day 6: 26-JAN-24 (FRI) KOLKATA

    Breakfast will be at your hotel.

    Today you will have day excursion to local village to witness Zari work [by small cars].

    Lunch will be at local restaurant at direct payment basis.

    Afternoon is at leisure to visit Fab India and Anokhi stores.

    Dinner &Stay overnight at The Elgin Fairlawn.

  • Day 7: 27-JAN-24 (SAT) KOLKATA

    Breakfast will be at your hotel.

    Drive to Phulia – a weaver’s village around 90 kms from Kolkata.

    The artisans here are famous for making the Tangail sarees.

    Explore the village and later drive to Krishna nagar, a must visit place for art lovers, famous for idol Makers who have been living here for some time.

    In the locality of Krishnagar called Ghurni, there is a colony of artists who work with clay. These artists produce images of Hindu gods and goddesses for traditional worship throughout the year, as well as clay models of human figures and real-life objects. The open studios and shops of the artists are an important attraction for visitors.

    This afternoon return to Kolkata, the drive being around 3 hours.

    Day cruise to Bellure math and afternoon visit exclusive store.

  • Day 9: 29-JAN-24 (MON) KOLKATA - SHANTINIKETAN

    After breakfast, Drive to Shantiniketan (approx. 170 km/5 hrs).

    Lunch will be at local restaurant at direct payment basis.

    Rest of the day at leisure.

  • Day 10: 30-JAN-24 (TUE) SHANTINIKETAN

    After breakfast, proceed to Local village to experience Block Printing workshop + Kantha workshop.

    Lunch will be at the artisan’s community at direct payment basis.

  • Day 11: 31-JAN-24 (WED) SHANTINIKETAN

    Breakfast will be at your hotel.

    Morning visit, Batik workshop at Amar Kutir.

    We will also visit the Vichitra Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts from Tagore’s life, including his many sketches and paintings and also visit to university complex.

    Lunch will be at local restaurant at direct payment basis.

  • Day 12: 01-FEB-24 (THU) SHANTINIKETAN

    Breakfast will be at your hotel.

    Drive Bishnupur (110 kms / 3hrs 30 min approx.) to witness Baluchari saree weaving, Conch shell and terracotta temples.

    Lunch will be at local restaurant at direct payment basis.

  • Day 13: 02-FEB-24 (FRI) SHANTINIKETAN - KOLKATA

    After breakfast drive back to Kolkata (140 kms/ 4hrs 30min).

  • Day 14: 03-FEB-24 (SAT) DEPART KOLKATA

    Today after breakfast, at appropriate time, you will be transferred by Aahilya Holiday’s representative to Kolkata airport to board flight to your onwardsdestination.
